GHBA Benefit Homes Project Partners Share Their Stories
Article by Morgan Peters, GHBA Director of Communications
First America Homes, a Signorelli Company, sat down with their Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit Homes Project vendor partners to learn why they decided to give back in such a significant way to the community. Here’s what they said:
Why participate in a GHBA Benefit Homes Project build?
Coleman Feeley with Lescon Plumbing: “I used to have a coach who would tell us, ‘What you do is so loud I can’t hear what you say.” I don’t want to ever minimize the significance of his words, but we think actions speak loudest.”

Joseph Williams with Builders FirstSource: “My company, Builders First Source, has always supported GHBA projects, especially the Benefit Homes Project. Supporting the community, supporting the people in the community, and in the end, supporting the individuals who receive the home.”
Don Jackson with Solid Foundations: “We supplied the concrete, post-tension cables, the labor to set forms – the whole nine yards. It feels really good to be able to give back to the community with this project and the people who will benefit from it. It feels good to give back.
Christina Mizell with MC Surfaces: “In my profession, we’re already working in ways to create spaces for families to live in and thrive in, but this makes it even more important because it’s helping those in need.”
Feeley: “This charitable project is different than others because it directly benefits an American institution—an American ideal—to benefit our veterans. They gave more than most people can imagine and more than most people are even prepared to risk. A lot of them gave that, and so when you have an opportunity to help and give back to the people who gave everything for our country, it’s a no-brainer.”
Paige Williams with Corey Construction: “It’s a great privilege to be able to do what we do on an everyday basis and provide roofs for so many homeowners, but to be able to do it for someone who served our country is a really awesome thing. There are no other organizations like the GHBA and Operation Finally Home.
Williams: “Why not be part of a group that comes together that does something positive for a community and in the end gives a home to somebody who really deserves it?”
Jackson: “Try to get as many people within your company involved in the project so they can enjoy the benefit of giving back to the community as well.”
Mizell: “Leverage your company’s strengths to give back to our community and those that need it most.”

Now in its 45th year, the GHBA Benefit Homes Project has raised over $14 million for local charities. This home is projected to be listed at $368,591 and proceeds will go toward the GHBA Charitable Foundation, Operation Finally Home, an organization providing housing and housing solutions to wounded military veterans and first responders, as well as HomeAid Houston, a charity providing resources for transitional shelter providers that serves people at risk of homelessness.
