Benefits of Membership

Organized in 1941, the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) was designed to help builders and associates involved in construction to better contend with their challenges through collective action. We believe in building a strong and profitable building industry for Houston members and customers.

As a part of Houston's building industry, we trust that you are also concerned with the same basic business objectives that confront our industry.

Our motto: "Building a Better Houston" is truly our vision. The GHBA is the largest home builder association in the state of Texas and the third largest in the country with over 1,600 member companies and more than 9,000 individual contacts to network with.

A GHBA membership can open doors for you and your business.
So what are you waiting for?

The Top 8 Reasons to Join GHBA

  • Strength in Numbers: 3-in-1 Membership

When you join the GHBA, you also become a member of the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). This benefit brings members the best of all worlds — local networking and resources, along with access to invaluable state and national information and privileges. TAB has nearly 10,000 members across the state. NAHB has 140,000 members nationwide.

  • Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy at all levels of government—local, state and federal

From building permitting and development, to statewide tax issues, to federal safety regulation, your membership gives you a voice at city hall, the Texas Capitol, and in Washington, D.C. During the 2023 Texas Legislative Session, TAB worked on thousands of bills that could have impacted the residential construction industry. Successful advocacy efforts by GHBA, TAB and NAHB have saved individual builders and home buyers thousands of dollars per home each year. Collectively, these savings exceed several billion dollars and directly affect your business' bottom line.

  • Project a positive image to your customers

Membership demonstrates a business' initiative, its engagement in the industry, and its commitment to staying abreast of current developments in the market. According to a national study, approximately 85 percent of all business failures occur in companies that are not members of their trade association.

  • Gain a competitive edge and broaden your knowledge

Your membership will help you stay on top of what's happening in the industry and may also inspire ideas to help you grow your business. GHBA offers industry specific education through NAHB designation courses, statewide initiatives, and classes of local interest.

  • Access to members-only information

Houston Builder magazine, the Annual Membership Directory and the Weekly eNewsletter provide you with breaking news and current information.

  • Support your community

The GHBA has a history of giving back to the community in a variety ways, and our member volunteers have contributed their resources to making their communities better places in which to live, work, and play. From scholarships to charity builds, our members raise hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to support local charitable causes.

  • Expand your professional network

Membership affords you opportunities to increase business and connect with other construction industry professionals. Bring awareness to your company and learn what your peers are doing. Events include traditional membership luncheons, after-hours mixers, golf tournaments, educational events, and more. GHBA hosts more than 200 events annually.

  • Members-only discounts

You can easily cover the cost of your membership by taking advantage of discount programs offered by your local, state and national associations on products and services that you use everyday, from insurance to office supplies to building materials and more. See all discounts, benefits and affinity programs.
