Over 400 Backpacks Donated to Houston’s At-Risk Children

Tamlyn, a family-owned and operated building supply and manufacturing company, hosted its first annual “Backpacks and Brunch Drive” on Friday, July 26 at Tamlyn’s headquarters in Stafford. Tamlyn donated over 400 backpacks and supplies to BEAR, a 501(c)(3) organization providing resources for at-risk and CPS-involved children and their caretakers in the greater Houston area.

“We’re excited to donate these backpacks and school supplies to students who need it the most in the Greater Houston area,” said Miguel Gonzales, Tamlyn CEO and president. “Service is one of the pillars of our company, so whether that’s providing good service to our clients or our community, we value the opportunity to make a meaningful impact where it matters most.”

BEAR is the only nonprofit organization working with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and Harris County Resources for Children and Adults that provides both basic needs for recently uprooted children and supportive services that offer comfort, dignity and tools for a successful future. The backpacks and supplies provided by Tamlyn will help equip these children with the tools they need to start the year on the right foot.
