The Greater Houston Builders Association is thrilled to be recognized with three Awards of Excellence (AEA) from the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

The Association Excellence Awards is an annual program designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local home builders’ associations and executive officers in the field of association management. The 2023 AEA recipients represent achievements in six pillars: Communications, Education, Government Affairs, HBA Operations, Membership and Revenue.

“It is truly an honor for the hard work and professionalism of the GHBA members and staff to be recognized with not just one, but three Association Excellence Awards,” said Aimee Bertrand, GHBA executive vice president and CEO. “Your innovation, dedication and countless hours of hard work elevate not only the GHBA but the entire homebuilding industry. A heartfelt thank you to the NAHB Executive Officers Council for recognizing our collective efforts!”

GHBA was honored in three categories.

Best Education Program for the GHBA Professional Designation Program. Beginning in 2022, the GHBA has offered three courses of study – the Professional Builder (PB), Professional Remodeler (PR), and Professional Builder Partner (PBP). These designations demonstrate a level of professionalism that is unique to Gulf Coast area building industry professionals. Coursework is designed for project managers, superintendents, residential builders, remodelers, engineers, general contractors, trades, suppliers, vendors and other industry partners. The first class of graduates earned their designations in 2023 and we applaud them for their ongoing commitment to industry education.

Best Government Affairs Effort – Locally for our members’ dedicated advocacy efforts and collaboration with city officials around the City of Houston’s Chapter 42. GHBA advocated heavily against language that would limit builders’ ability to develop around parks and schools, and fought to maintain the ability to only use alleyways when it is a city or HOA maintained alleyway.

“We are honored to see our local advocacy efforts recognized on a national stage,” added Bertrand. “We want to thank all GHBA members who actively participated in the discussions and provided valuable insights throughout this process. Your input was instrumental in shaping the final version of Chapter 42.”

Best Council Development Program for the Professional Women in Building Council’s Mentorship Cohort. The GHBA PWB continues to look for ways to offer learning, networking, and personal growth opportunities for its members. While mentorship can take various forms, one particularly impactful approach is woman-to-woman mentorship. Women face unique challenges and barriers in the workplace, and having experienced women mentors can provide invaluable guidance, support, and empowerment. By sharing their own experiences and offering advice, the chosen mentors can help mentees develop strategies to overcome challenges and thrive in their chosen fields within the building industry and learn of new ones as well.

“When women receive mentorship and support, they are more likely to pay it forward by becoming mentors themselves. This perpetuates a cycle of empowerment and helps bridge the gender gap in our industry,” said PWB President Sherry Pruitt, Whodid It Designs | Remodeling.

The winning entries will be added to the NAHB website, so that other executives and associations across the country can access and learn from them in order to provide better service to their own members and community. Learn more about the Association Excellence Awards at nahb.org.

“I am inspired by the outstanding achievements of our local associations that won AEA honors this year. Their dedication to excellence, innovation, and community impact sets a high standard for all of us,” said Natalie Fryer, EOC president and executive officer of the HBA of Fayetteville. “These associations are shining examples of what can be accomplished with vision, hard work, and a commitment to quality. Congratulations to all the award-winning associations for their well-deserved recognition. Your accomplishments not only benefit your members but also enhance the entire Federation.”

The HBA Award winners will be joined by the winners of the individual awards and recognized at the Association Management Conference in Salt Lake City, Aug. 20-22, 2024.
