John Culberson at GHBA Developers Council meetingOn August 1, the GHBA Developers Council hosted Congressman John Culberson (CD-7) who discussed his work on securing federal funds for Harvey recovery and infrastructure projects in his role as a subcommittee chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Congressman Culberson was instrumental in securing nearly $5 billion for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers construction funding. This is enough to finish every federally authorized flood control project in Harris County. It includes $75 million to complete Project Brays, over $295 million for Clear Creek, $65 million for Hunting Bayou, and $45 million for White Oak Bayou.

Nearly $4 billion of construction funding is also included for the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay project, an important step in developing a comprehensive coastal spine to protect the Texas coast.

As the senior Appropriations Committee member for Southeast Texas and an outspoken supporter of the Harris County Flood Control Bond Package, he is in a great position to help draw down the federal funds needed to improve our resiliency and mitigate flooding in our region.
