Unveiling a Gorgeous, Contemporary Home in Elyson

This year marks the Benefit Homes Project’s 44th anniversary, raising more than $13 million dollars over the years thanks to the generosity of GHBA members who donate everything needed to build a livable home, from the land to the labor and every little design element imaginable.

For the first project of 2024, Brookfield Properties donated land within Elyson by Newland in Katy, and Chesmar Homes is spearheading the construction.

On Friday, February 2, GHBA leaders and members, including Chesmar Homes and Brookfield Properties, as well as HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home came together to celebrate the groundbreaking. Although construction started in January, inclement weather conditions caused a delay in the ceremonial groundbreaking event.

This is the eighth home built by Chesmar Homes and the first lot donated by Brookfield Properties for the GHBA’s annual, charitable project. One other plot of land within Elyson was donated to the Benefit Homes Project in 2017 by Newland.

“We are consistently inspired by the remarkable generosity of GHBA members who donate their own resources, time, labor, land and materials to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project. We are profoundly grateful to Chesmar Homes and Brookfield Development, as well as the countless vendors who, through this charitable project, are providing a sense of security, stability and laying the foundation for a brighter future.”

Typically, GHBA members unite to build two homes per year from start to finish. The homes are then sold at market price, with most proceeds going toward Operation Finally Home, an organization providing mortgage-free homes, home modifications and transitional housing to military veterans, first responders and their families, as well as HomeAid Houston, a charity providing resources for transitional shelter providers and for people at risk of homelessness.

This home is projected to list at $599,390, which would be the highest listing price in GHBA Benefit Homes Project history.

Chesmar is building its Sweetwater layout for the Project, a 2,988-square-foot home perfect for entertaining and family living. It features four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage. The home blends open- and closed-concept designs. A cozy study is located directly to the left of the home’s entrance, with the foyer flowing to an open and airy gourmet kitchen featuring a walk-in pantry, a utility room and a casual dining area, which overlooks a massive family room with a vaulted ceiling that carries through to the outdoor, covered patio. In addition to a Texas-sized primary bedroom and three sizable bedrooms, homeowners have a 13-foot by 13-foot suite retreat off the kitchen that features the option to remain open or closed off with doors for a personal gym, an at-home theater, library or another space that fits their needs.

Elyson, a premier master-planned community on 3,600 acres of land, was originally developed by Newland, a national master-planned community developer. In June 2021, Newland and its assets were acquired by Brookfield Properties, a leading global developer and operator of high-end real estate assets.

Elyson offers scenic views and luxury amenities for active homeowners and their families who enjoy spending time outdoors, including about 30 miles of nature trails, multiple pools, a pickleball court, an array of outdoor spaces and parks, a sprawling lake, a community garden and so much more. Elyson is zoned for Katy ISD, positioning the community as an ideal option for homebuyers seeking their first home or a bigger home to support their growing families.

At completion, Elyson will feature approximately 6,000 one- and two-story modern homes with cozy and classy interiors ranging in price from $300,000 to more than $1 million, and from 1,500 to approximately 3,000-square feet.

As Chesmar Homes continues construction on this plot of land within Elyson, we are reminded of the charitable contributions of GHBA members to build a greater Houston.
