The GHBA extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Al Brende, co-founder of Land Tejas, who passed away on August 26 at age 80.

Brende was a transformational figure in Houston’s homebuilding and development community. Through his leadership and vision at Land Tejas, he helped introduce guard-gated communities in the region and fostered innovation—from fiber-to-the-home internet and low-voltage wiring to resort-style amenities in master-planned developments. During its 28-year history, Land Tejas developed homes covering more than 15,000 acres of land and more than 25 communities.

Among its many honors, Land Tejas was named GHBA Developer of the Year in 2000. One of the hallmarks of Brende’s legacy was his extraordinary philanthropic commitment to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project, donating a record-breaking 18 home lots to support this initiative over the years.
