GHBA’s 2022 Executive Committee, sworn in at President Jennifer Keller’s (center) ‘Paint the Town Red’ Installation Celebration in January at the JW Marriott Hotel.

Have you ever thought about serving on the Greater Houston Builders Association board of directors? If so, now is the time to throw your hat in the ring.

What does the GHBA board of directors do?

The board of directors is the governing body of the GHBA. They meet five times per year to review association finances, discuss industry issues, receive briefings on association issues and share knowledge. Members of the board are expected to make decisions on behalf of the association, in the best interest of the industry. They manage the assets of the association on behalf of its members. Board members may serve for one, two, or three-year terms.

Board members are expected to contribute to the association as members of HOME-PAC and to recruit at least three new members throughout the year. They also are often asked to serve on committees, judge at events, and help represent the association at events in the community or with partner organizations.
Some board members also serve at the Texas Association of Builders and/or National Association of Home Builders on behalf of GHBA.

Who can serve on the GHBA board?

Up to 30 members of the GHBA may serve on the board of directors. Officers of the board include, the president, who also serves as the chairman of the board of directors, the vice president, the associate vice president, the secretary, the treasurer and the general counsel.

At least two-thirds of the directors must be builder/developer/remodeler members, and up to one-third of the directors may be associate members. The immediate past president also serves as a one-year term director. Presidents of councils, including the Associate Council, Custom Builders Council, Community Developers Council, Remodelers Council, Sales and Marketing Council, and the presidents of the divisions: Northern Counties and Bay Area Builders Association, also serve one-year terms as directors on the board. The president may also nominate ex-officio, non-voting members of the board.
