The Greater Houston Builders Association’s Remodelers Council (RMC), recently donated dozens of new and slightly used items that were to be part of their annual Garage Sale to Family Promise of Lake Houston (FPLH), a non-profit agency in Humble, Texas that meets the immediate needs of homeless families while empowering them to attain self sufficiency.

The RMC Garage Sale is a public event that offers donated building materials and household items from GHBA members and others. Materials can include doors, windows, tile and appliances. This year was the 12th year for the garage sale that was to be held in March, but the mandates to observe “social distancing” and “staying in place” did not allow the event to take place.

“The GHBA Remodelers Council has a long history of charitable fundraising,” said Nick Cubbler with Semper Fi Contractors, the chairman of the 2020 RMC Garage Sale. “The situation this year did not allow us to move forward as we usually do by opening to the public. We were honored to be able to offer the items to Family Promise of Lake Houston and are happy they will be able to raise valuable funds to continue the support they give to homeless families in our community.”

FPLH is also one of HomeAid Houston’s charities. HomeAid is partnering with First America Homes, the homebuilding division of The Signorelli Company, to construct a Life Skills Center for FPLH.

A team from FPLH collected the garage sale items that included dozens of new windows, doors, bathtubs, fixtures, furniture, lighting, tile, wood flooring and appliances. FPLH will in turn, conduct their own garage sale later in the year.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to take on this annual sale,” said Jessica Penney, executive director of FPLH. “The funds we’ll receive, will provide FPLH the boost we need in this challenging time. We can’t thank HomeAid Houston enough for helping to facilitate this partnership with the GHBA RMC.”

The RMC Garage Sale team also included GHBA member co-chairs William Cole with Divine Renovations and Stephen Twarowski with SHR Remodeling, and other GHBA committee members.
