Members of the GHBA Professional Women in Building Council and Retention Committee gather to celebrate the dual NAHB Association Excellence Award win.

The GHBA is proud to be the recipient of two Awards of Excellence from the Executive Officers Council (EOC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) for 2022. The GHBA received the Best Membership Recruitment/Retention Plan Implemented for Growing Membership with Emphasis on Retention, and the Best Council Development Program with the establishment of the GHBA Professional Women in Building Council (PWB). Both GHBA programs were chosen among the other entries from across the nation, for being a valuable resource for other HBA’s.

“Our devoted staff and the members who volunteer their time and energy throughout the year, are the best in the country. Our team talks and promotes membership throughout the organization and this is reflected in the huge growth we experienced throughout 2022. We are also honored to receive the Best Council Development Program with the establishment of our Professional Women in Building Council. The PWB is managed and led by these same committed members who are nothing short of fantastic.”

GHBA President Mike Dishberger, Sandcastle Homes

To build membership and maintain support to ensure retention, GHBA successfully launched its first digital retargeting advertising campaign to support its membership recruitment goals. The “You Belong Here” campaign, developed with limited funds, ran from June to December 2022. The GHBA also developed an Ambassador Program to enlist the seasoned members to connect with potential and new members to help them navigate the association. The GHBA membership grew more than 10 percent, from 1,467 to 1,618, during the 2022 calendar year.

The newly formed PWB quickly grew in membership to 182 within the first month of its inception, topping chapters throughout the country. By the end of 2022, the PWB had grown to be twice the size of the largest council in the country, with more than 320 members. The council hit the ground running, hosting eight events in its inaugural year, with the goal to educate, mentor, network, inspire and provide a megaphone for the voices of women in the industry.

The Association Excellence Awards is an annual program designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local home builders’ associations and executive officers in the field of association management. EOC membership is comprised of the staff executives who direct more than 590 NAHB-affiliated state and local home builders’ associations representing more than 130,000 home builders in communities across the United States.

“These awards are a testament to the amazing work that GHBA members and staff are doing,” said Aimee Bertrand, GHBA CEO. “The efforts of the Membership and Retention Committee and our rapidly growing Professional Women in Building Council are being noticed by homebuilders’ associations around the country. We look forward to continuing to learn from others and share the exemplary projects and programs being undertaken in Houston.”

The winning entries will be added to the NAHB website, so that other executives and associations across the country can access and learn from them in order to provide better service to their own members and community.
