GHBA to Hold Review Sessions of COH Proposed Amendments to 2015 IRC

Bradley PepperAdvocacy, Codes, Custom Builders

The GHBA Code & Standards Committee and the In-Town Builder Taskforce have begun weekly review sessions of the City of Houston’s proposed amendments to 2015 International Residential Code from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the GHBA.

We have identified some concerns in their preliminary draft amendments, including the omission a critical amendment that is and has been in the current code requiring only a 3 ft. firewall separation distance on new construction. Without that amendment, the firewall separation would move to 5 ft.

The GHBA has already engaged Houston Permitting Center leadership in an effort to work with them on some of our concerns, but we must be prepared to address all the issues that we have with their proposed amendments and provide solutions.
