Spring Branch ISD Adopts HBI’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program

With back-to-school season in full swing, Spring Branch ISD’s Spring Woods High School and Northbrook High School have officially adopted the Home Builder Institute’s Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) as a component of the school district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

With students returning to classrooms, the timing couldn’t be better. The PACT program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the construction industry. The grant will support instructor training, certification and provide essential resources like workbooks and assessments. Students will also have access to HBI’s online learning management system, ensuring they receive comprehensive training to prepare for careers in the trades.

Bringing hands-on construction experience into the classroom for these students was made possible by the funding provided by the Greater Houston Builders Association through HBI’s 2024 Schools to Skills Grant and Stanley Black & Decker’s Makers Grant. HBI’s PACT program includes instructor training and certification, workbooks, assessments, access to HBI’s online learning management system and funding to adopt the program. Because of Stanley Black and Decker, the GHBA was also able to donate about $880 in tools to Spring Woods High School.

Stanley Black & Decker’s commitment to workforce development is further highlighted by their second Global Impact Challenge, which will provide up to $25 million in grant funding over five years to nonprofits focused on trade workforce initiatives. The GHBA, in collaboration with HBI, is honored to be among the 91 entities selected to receive the Makers grant. This partnership is vital in our mission to build a skilled workforce in the Houston region, preparing students for careers as skilled technical workers and future business owners in the residential construction industry.

As we look ahead to the school year, we are excited to continue to support local workforce development with the help of our members. If you would like to explore ways that you can help, please email media@ghba.org.
