On March 29, around 140 GHBA members joined other home builders from across the state at the Texas Capitol in Austin for a day of advocacy. GHBA members heard from Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham at our Rally Day luncheon and concluded the event by meeting with more than 40 members of the legislative delegation who represent the 11 counties served by the GHBA.
Members advocated strongly for H.B. 2022 which focuses on actual construction defects, provides necessary clarifications, and further encourages home builders to make reasonable offers of repair. Another top priority bill was H.B. 2024, which proposes to provide builders with a significant incentive to provide homeowners with strong written warranties in exchange for a lowered statute of repose (SOR).
The GHBA was proud to bring home the Texas Association of Builders’ Best of Texas Award for the largest number of members attending Rally Day.
There will be plenty of further opportunities to engage with the legislature as this session continues. Keep an eye out for more information in the weekly newsletter or reach out to Troy Allen, director of government affairs, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
