The Remodelers Council (RMC) Charity Garage Sale is arguably the council’s favorite tradition because it provides them with the funds necessary to give back to the community. This year, RMC returned to the Cy-Fair Home & Outdoor Living Show to host its 16th annual Charity Garage Sale on Saturday, March 22 through Sunday, March 23.
Starting early on each year, GHBA members begin donating truckloads of home products, such as doors, windows, appliances, lighting fixtures, cabinets, ceiling fans, sinks, tile, select furniture and more that are either brand new or gently used. Builders FirstSource and Res Com Custom Builders mostly organize and coordinate collecting and storing the donations until the show, while RMC members volunteer their weekend time to unload, wipe down, price and sell all the donated items.

Coordinating and executing this event takes a lot of effort, time and dedication, but our remodeler members look forward to doing it year after year because their hard work helps raise funds for charitable projects that allow them to give back and enhance the community.
“This event is truly a team effort. From the donors to the volunteers to the shoppers, everyone plays a part,” said Paul Canady, Garage Sale Committee chair and co-owner of Res Com Custom Builders. “We’re proud to turn that collaboration into something that benefits the greater Houston community. It’s a chance for us to do what we do best — building and remodeling — and channel that into something lasting for someone else.”

Each year, the RMC board and Garage Sale Committee select a local nonprofit to receive support through a hands-on charitable project. This year’s Garage Sale raised just over $14,000, which will be used to fund the council’s 2025 charity remodel. The selection process for this year’s recipient is currently underway! Past beneficiaries include Family Promise of Lake Houston, House of Tiny Treasures, Santa Maria Hostel, Lydia’s Place, Agape Development, Wellsprings Village, Casa de Esperanza, Family Time Crisis Shelter, SIRE Therapeutic Equestrian Center, ECHOS Community Center, Jacquelyn House, Open Door Mission, Habitat for Humanity, The Sonrise Shelter, and more. The RMC Garage Sale Committee will donate their time and labor, using the funds raised to purchase the materials needed to bring the project to life.
All items that were not sold at the Garage Sale were donated to Habitat for Humanity.
We would like to thank the entire RMC for their efforts to help build a greater Houston!
