GHBA’s top recruiters for 2017 were honored at the association’s annual Installation Celebration, January 31 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Brian Stevenson was tapped as “Spike of the Year.” The “Retention Spike of the Year” distinction was a tie between Debbie Page and Allen Lusk.
Member-to-member recruitment and retention efforts are the largest source of growth for the association. GHBA’s “Spikes” are the membership leaders, building the voice, power and influence of our industry on every level. Spikes bring grassroots growth and stability, which further develop the general membership and leadership pipeline.
“Our members are the lifeblood of the GHBA,” said D’Ann Brown, GHBA Membership Committee chair. “And peer-to-peer recruiting is key to strengthening the home building industry. Thank you to all of our Spikes for your tireless efforts to grow your association.”

For the fourth year in a row, Brian Stevenson earned GHBA Spike of the Year with 21 new member SPIKE credits. Brian is the VP of association health plans Texas for The Stevenson Group/OneDigital. Brian is actively involved in several of the association’s councils and committees, including the Membership Committee, and has recruited more than 300 members to the association over the years.
“The Stevenson’s have been working with the GHBA organization for about 40 years and it has been an incredible experience working with not only the individual member companies but also the amazing staff that GHBA has always employed,” said Brian. “There are so many different benefits, educational opportunities, networking events, etc. that GHBA has to offer. There is literally something in it for any member company to take advantage of, and that versatility makes it so easy to recruit new members. GHBA is a very professional, well run organization that we are very proud to be members of.”
Allen Lusk was honored as one of two Retention Spikes of the Year, with 31 credits in 2017, and more than 2,000 Spike credits in his career. Allen manages the Builder Division for Texas American Title Company, and has been an active GHBA member since 1981. A longtime association leader, he has served on the boards of directors for the GHBA, HomeAid Houston and the Sales and Marketing Council. He has also chaired the Membership and Retention committees and served as president of the Associate Council for two terms.
“I have made numerous lifetime friendships and business relationships through my association with the GHBA,” said Allen. “It really is exciting to see how much the association has grown over the past 30+ years. With each new member, our collective influence and strength grows, and I’m honored to be a part of this ongoing effort.”
Debbie Page with 1st Infiniti Enterprises/1st Texas Fire Protection was also tapped as Retention Spike of the Year in 2017 with 31 credits. Debbie has been a member for 21 years. A long-time supporter of the Membership and Ambassador committees, Debbie loves to cultivate new members and help them succeed in their first year. She has recruited/retained more than 150 members to the association!
“Debbie is always one of the first to sign up for our Membership Drives, and she always tops the list as one of our best recruiters,” said Cynthia Fagan, GHBA membership director. “On behalf of GHBA, thank you for your contributions. You are a rock star, and we appreciate you!”
