The homebuilding industry continues to be a bright spot in the economy. The ninth largest association in the country, GHBA's 1,683 member companies represent more than 118,000 full time jobs. With more than 48,000 homes built in the Houston metro area in 2005, the local building industry generated $3.9 billion in wages, and $2.1 billion in federal, state and local revenues and fees, and an additional $4.3 billion in consumer spending. Since 1980, home prices have increased an average of 5%  and have never shown an annual loss. A home is a solid investment in the future.
