GHBA Scholarship Fund Sets New Record
(Houston, TX – July 30, 2007) Each year GHBA presents scholarships
to several universities, and to
students whose parents are GHBA members. Thanks to the generous donations of
many members, the Associate Council set
a new record in the amount of scholarship
dollars given to member’s children
and to the universities – nearly $18,000
for 2007.

Post-Tension, Trendmaker Homes and
Wilshire Homes for their generous contributions.
The biggest reason the association was
able to award so much this year was due
to a large contribution made by ACES
Builders’ Warranty. A very special thanks
to Max Hoyt of ACES, who was on hand
at the luncheon to help present the scholarship

Subprime Lending Leads to Midyear Course Correction in Local Housing Market
(HOUSTON, TX – June 26, 2007) The current interruption in the prosperity of the housing
industry and sales of new and existing (resale) homes has not been caused by a slowdown in
the economy, Mike Inselmann, president of Metrostudy, said today at a mid-year housing
forecast sponsored by the Greater Houston Builders Association. “The U.S. economy is
performing quite well despite the effects of the slowdown in housing activity. In fact, the
economy has been showing enough strength to rekindle concern among some economists that
the next action by the Federal Reserve may well be an increase in rates rather than a cut. There
is very little expectation that the nation will face a recession later this year, an improvement in
the sentiment that was becoming the norm only a few months ago, when the impact of the
housing market on the economy was the primary concern of the day.”
